Beaches and Coast of the Giglio Island
Discover the four beautiful beaches of the Giglio Island. From the largest in the north-west, Campese, to the three smaller ones on the east coast: Cannelle and Arenella as well as the smallest beach Caldane, which is only reachable on foot or by boat.
Campese beach is the largest beach of Giglio and the most important tourist resort. Long and wide, divided in the middle by a cliff, it has a dark red coarse sand and drops quickly to 1-2 meters in depth.
From the beach you can enjoy a magnificent view of the bay with the Faraglione rock on the left and the ancient tower on the right. West exposure allows you to enjoy the sun until late in the evening and spectacular sunsets.
At the entrance of the village you will find the only campsite of the island. There is a nice hiking trail to the Faraglione rock on the left side of the bay as well as to the rock Sparavieri (near the campsite). You can also walk down to Campese from Castello enjoying magnificent views on the bay.

The smallest beach of Giglio is located south of Cannelle and can only be reached by sea or on foot. Framed by granite rocks and with it's golden and coarse sand the beach has remained wonderfully wild despite the beach service existing during the high season.
Services: sun umbrella and beach chair rental
How to get there: The beach can only be reached by taxi-boat or on foot (30 minutes from Cannelle). The beautiful hiking path starts at the southern tip of the Cannelle beach follows the coast line.
The Arenella beach is located on the east coast of the island just north of the harbour Giglio Porto. It is the third largest beach on the island and the underwater alternating stones with sand give the bay an almost tropical paint.
The sand is rather coarse-grained of a light gold color. The beach drops slowly in depth and the bay is a paradise also for the smallest snorkelers.
Services: bar, lido, boat rental, water taxi.
How to get there: The beach is accessible by car. The nearest bus stop is close to the Hotel Castello Monticello above Giglio Porto. From there follow the panoramic road to Arenellafor about 1,6 km (20 min.). At the height of the helicopter landing field starts a footpath leading directly to the beach.
A boat trip to discover the hidden coves and beaches inaccessible from the ground is an experience that should not be missed during a holiday on Giglio island. Most of the coastline is inhabited and only a few spots can be reached on foot. As soon as you leave the main villages and beaches, you will find isolated coves of rare beauty: granite rocks, mountains overlooking the sea, a dense green Mediterranean vegetation and crystal clear waters with spectacular seabed’s.
Taking a solitary bath in one of these coves is a truly unforgettable experience&hellpi;

It is the southernmost island of the Tuscan archipelago, located about 8 miles southeast of Giglio (to whose municipality it belongs to) and about 6 miles southwest of Monte Argentario. It is a small paradise without cars, roads and big tourist structures…
