How to get to the island of Giglio
Isola del Giglio is located in the southern tip of the Tuscan Archipelago about 2 hours from Rome and Florence.
To reach the island of Giglio, take the ferry from Porto Santo Stefano (Monte Argentario), a place easily accessible by car, train or bus, from where the two shipping companies (Toremar and Maregiglio) make numerous multi-day trips to Giglio Porto.

Getting to Giglio by car, train, plane or bus

By Car
Coming from the north, Florence or Pisa, you pass on the Grosseto ring road and continue towards Rome on the Via Aurelia. After about 34 km, exit the highway at Albinia and follow the road signs to Porto Santo Stefano (12 km).
From the south, from Rome, take the Via Aurelia or the Roma – Fiumicino motorway to leave the city and then continue on the A12 motorway towards Civitavecchia. The highway ends in Tarquinia, joining the SS1 Aurelia which runs up to Orbetello. After passing through the town of Orbetello, follow the road signs to Porto Santo Stefano (12 km).
In Plane
The nearest airports are Rome (Fiumicino or Ciampino) and Pisa (about 150 Km).
From Pisa Airport, take the “People Mover” train to Pisa Centrale Station from where you can continue with the trains to Rome getting off at Orbetello Monte-Argentgario (see following section)
From Fiumicino Airport you can take the regional train (towards Orte) to Trastevere station and then take the regional train towards Pisa. Alternatively, take the “Leonardo Express” which goes to Termini station, from where you can continue towards Pisa. From Ciampino Airport the easiest solution is to reach Termini station by bus and then take the towards Pisa, getting of at Orbetello Monte-Argentario.

By Train and Bus
TRAIN
On the Pisa – Rome line, get off at the Orbetello – Monte Argentario station.
From Rome The regional train leaves from Termini and stops in Tuscolana, Ostiense, Trastevere and S. Pietro stations and it takes about 1h30m to the Orbetello station.
From here you can take the bus (see below) to Porto Santo Stefano directly to the ferry boarding to Giglio.
BUS
The railway station of Orbetello – Monte Argentario is connected by bus directly to the ferry boarding in Porto Santo Stefano. From the train station to the Molo Garibaldi stop (it is the first stop arriving at P. S. Stefano) it takes about 21 minutes (better calculate with a few more minutes).
The line is managed by Autolelinee Toscane S.P.A. (AT Bus) and the ticket costs around € 2.60 (€ 4 ticket on board). At the train station it is sold at the bar and best buy also the return ticket.
Taxi Orbetello
From the Orbetello Monte Argentario station, a taxi service is also available at rates are around € 15 – € 20.

Boarding for the Island of Giglio
The boarding of the ferries for the Island of Giglio is located in Porto Santo Stefano on the northern coast of the Monte Argentario peninsula immediately at the entrance to the town (Navigator: Piazzale Candi 8, 58019 Porto Santo Stefano, Porto del Valle commercial port).
If you bring your car to the island of Giglio you can leave it directly at the embarkation point (orange P on the map).
The ticket offices of both the two shipping companies Toremar and Maregiglio are located just before the pier on the other side of the road (yellow house on the map). With cars and motorbikes in tow, pre-booking is always advisable, in order to be sure to find a place on the ship. In high season we always recommend booking the ferry also for foot passengers, so as not to run the risk of having to queue for the purchase of the ticket on the port and have problems with returning during holidays or weekends.

Vehicle Traffic Restriction
Limitation to the influx of vehicles 2022 from 1st to 27th August
Limitation to the disembarkation and circulation of vehicles on the islands of Giglio and Giannutri during the summer period: To bring the car or motorbike (with Italian license plate) on the Giglio Island during the month of August (the three central weeks) it is mandatory stay at least 5 days (4 nights) and fill in a self-certification, to be shown upon disembarkation and to be kept inside the vehicle for the entire period of stay. This authorization is not required if the vehicle has a foreign license plate or if it has a disabled badge.

Reach the island of Giglio by boat
Tips and useful information for safe mooring
For boaters the only safe mooring is that of Giglio Porto. However, the only port on the island of Giglio has only a very limited number of berths on the quay. For larger boats (the length must not exceed 25 meters) it has about 13 places at the red pier (grand ducal pier) for the night only. During the day, the seats must be vacated as they are used by the cruise ships. Services for the boats that anchor in the harbour of Giglio is a petrol station. Only for small boats with little draft can they supply water and electricity to the floating piers in zone B2.

There are anchorage possibilities in Cala delle Cannelle (south of the port) and Cala dell’Allume (on the west coast) in case of north wind and the Campese bay and Cala dell’Arenella protected from the sirocco.

Giglio Porto, the only port on the island, can accommodate up to 196 boats.
